İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Dr. Buğra Gökçe and Izmir Economics University Head of Architecture Department Assoc. Dr. Aslı Ceylan Öner made a presentation on the practices in Izmir at the international academic conference titled "Fast Cities, Responsive Structures" being organized by Dubai American University and academic research organization AMPS. Many participants from America, Europe, Middle East and Asian countries took part in the conference.
During the presentation of the Assoc. Dr. Öner and Dr. Gökçe's, "How can smart city transportation, infrastructure and information systems be used to create urban resilience during COVID-19 pandemic?" question was examined, and the applications of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in the pandemic process were explained as a model.
In the presentation of Assoc. Dr. Aslı Ceylan Öner and Dr. Buğra Gökçe, the importance of the equipment and innovative capacity that have been obtained during the process of creating technological infrastructures such as İzmir Metropolitan Municipality's award-winning smart city projects İZUM (İzmir Transportation Centre) and AYBİS (Infrastructure Information Systems) in making the vulnerable groups resilient for crisis municipalism in the pandemic was mentioned.
The applications such as the payment of the water bills of families suffering from economic difficulties by the persons who can effort to do so through the Pending Bill application, providing internet for young people, call packs for the elderlies, supporting to those who do not have the opportunity through purchasing food and hygiene packs from People's Grocery were also explained. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's Maskematics project that provides free masks with the public transportation card, which was also taken as a model in the national and international arena, was among the topics discussed during the presentation.
