Izmir was one of the three guest cities that participated to the Street Food Festival organized for the third time this year in Lyon, a city known as the European “capital of gastronomy”.

Thanks to the leading efforts of the Metropolitan Municipality, Izmir Cuisine and food culture were promoted for 4 days and became the focus of interest of the organization. Montreal and Hong Kong were the other guest cities of the Festival.  

Every year, the “Lyon Street Food Festival” hosts the renowned chefs from 3 exquisite cities, which stand out in the field of global gastronomy and are DELICE members, and promotes their cuisines and the stand of Izmir, which was opened with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, served unique cold dishes of the Aegean cuisine that are cooked with olive oil, cold cuts, Izmir style meatballs, lokma dessert and boyoz pastry as well as signature dishes of the Turkish cuisine, such as bologna sandwich, semolina halva with nuts, kadayıf dessert with walnuts and Turkish coffee. 

Besides the servings of main destinations, 70 chefs cooked their signature dishes on the stands opened in the indoor and outdoor locations of the events organized on nearly 1500 m2 area. The participants promoted their cuisines and cultures by organizing a number of cooking workshops, music band performances and shows and Izmir booklets in French and unique souvenirs of the city were handed out at Izmir Metropolitan Municipality’s stand during the organization. Lyon Mayor Georges Kepenekian and the Turkish Consul General in Lyon Mehmet Çakar visited the stand of Izmir on the first day of the festival.
