İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer participated the World Policy Forum organized by Global Solution Initiative.

In the online meeting, Mayor Soyer said, “Global pandemic showed us once more that cities shall play more important roles in global cooperation and governance and international organizations shall renew their structure accordingly. This is the only way to achieve a higher quality of life and a sustainable future.” 

Cities shall be more in the centre
Mayor Soyer expressed global problems such as coronavirus pandemic, global warming and reduced biodiversity are threatening humanity and the world, he stated that sustainable urbanization is the most important global application scene in combating these threats. Underlining the importance of cities achieving their potentials as actors of both regional and sustainable development, Soyer said, “The lesson we learned from experiences of İzmir is that increasing international cooperation of cities for a better and brighter future. Sustainable urbanization is vital for our world and can only be achieved by creating more efficient international cooperation.  Cities shall have a more central role in world governance rather they being side-lined.”

Forum brought together state leaders, ministers, academicians from leading universities of the world and leaders of international organizations such as United Nations and World Bank, online. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer was the only mayor invited to the World Policy Forum. Minister of Treasury and Finance, Berat Albayrak also attended the forum from Turkey.
