Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer hosted the delegation from Yatta, Palestine, in his office. Emphasizing the significance of the peace climate in the region, Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “We believe that common sense and peace will win in the world. We believe that the suffering will end. We learned that we need to strengthen the ties between us so that such things do not happen again.”
Yatta Municipal Council Members Abdalkarim T. H. Shreiteh and Osama Omar Mohammad Aljboor and their accompanying delegation from Yatta, Palestine visited Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer at the Sovereignty House. In addition to the wishes to end the war in the region and ensure a peaceful environment, activities that could be done in conjunction with a peace climate were also brought to the agenda. Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that they, as Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, are ready to support.
Soyer: “This visitation is very valuable for us”
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “Our minds and hearts have been there since the beginning of the Gaza attack. We are very sorry. There is great shame and great pain for humanity. We are aware of this. That's why we want to do whatever we can to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters. We believe that common sense and peace will win in the world. We believe that the suffering will end. We learned that we need to strengthen the ties between us so that such things do not happen again. We need to strengthen the relationship between cities so that the bond between our people can be strengthened. As far as I know, Yatta is a mountainous region, there is a serious need for city planning. Working on infrastructure is needed. We, as Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, would like to support all these areas. We want peace to come as soon as possible, and as soon as it comes, we want to work to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between us. This visitation is very valuable to us.”

Palestine Yatta Municipality Council Member Abdalkarim T. H. Shreiteh said, “Unfortunately, our Mayor Saleh Abdallah Saleh Awad could not be with us today, but he expresses his gratitude and respect for your invitation. Palestine Yatta Municipal Council Member Osama Omar Mohammad Aljboor said, “Our municipality was established in 1966. The population of our city is currently around 120 thousand and is growing rapidly. We stand out as the city with the youngest urban population in Palestine. We are a very valuable region in terms of the marble industry. We have 27 thousand students in 100 schools in Yatta. However; we are in a very difficult time right now. We even have problems collecting garbage in the city. Developing very meaningful and valuable partnerships with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will yield very beneficial results for our city.”
