Our guest is the Austrian Ambassador |
Tunç Soyer, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, hosted Dr. Johannes Wimmer, Ambassador of Austria, and Ülkü Caner, Honorary Consul of Austria in his office. Ambassador Wimmer, speaking during the visit, emphasised the long-established history and cultural structure of Izmir, and Mayor Tunç Soyer said that he was proud to live in this city and to serve as the Metropolitan Mayor, adding "It is a privilege to work for the people of Izmir."
“We will make Austrian Days in Izmir”
Mayor Soyer stated that intercity diplomacy should be revived, and added: “We can start to strengthen our bilateral relations with culture after the pandemic. Because economic relations will be strengthened in this way." Wimmer emphasised that they can start a twin city study and said, "There are 20 Austrian companies in Izmir. We already have relations; however, we can improve them further.” Mayor Soyer said, “We can conduct Austrian Days in Izmir. And the same will be done in Graz, too."
