Izmir Received Two City Awards |
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality received two awards from the 5th Sign of the City Awards (SOTCA) competition organized this year.
The competition, organized in 5 categories and led by Hürriyet Newspaper, awarded the “Sustainable Transportation Project” in the Best Transportation and Infrastructure Services category and “Izmir History Project” in the Cultural Heritage Protection / Memorial category.
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu was present at the award ceremony held at Istanbul Hilton Bomonti Hotel and received the awards from Sign of City Grand Jury Co-Chair and World Architecture Community Founding Chairman Prof. Dr. Suha Özkan and Hürriyet Daily’s Chief Editor Vahap Munyar. The Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum and Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Mevlüt Uysal were also present at the award ceremony.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality focuses on public transportation in line with its goal of reducing carbon emission in the city. Izmir History Project, which started in 2013, takes important steps for improving and refreshing the region, located in the midst of Kemeraltı-Agora-Kadifekale triangle and known as the historical town center of the city, by taking into consideration the protection-utilization balance
