Izmir Metropolitan Municipality built a “High Forest of Sister Cities” in Bornova Aşık Veysel Recreational Area to honor its sister cities located all around the world.
The works of art presented by the Wuhan city in the People’s Republic of China and Torino in Italy are displayed in the high forest and the replicas of the “Temple of Orpheus” ruins, designed in Kardzhali, Bulgaria, will take its place in the high forest soon. Furthermore, the famous “Town Musicians of Bremen” statue of sculptor from Izmir, a replica of “Stari Most” in Mostar, an elephant statue representing Mumbai and statues of Andersen’s work “Andersen’s Fairy Tales” that is identified with Odense can be seen in this park.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has been signing sister city protocols, cooperation protocols and goodwill agreements since 1980 and the number of sister cities reached up to 28 by the end of 2018.
