Friday, April 19, 2024 The maintenance work carried out meticulously since February 5 at the Cable Car Facilities in Balçova, where İzmir Metropolitan Municipality provides services at European Union standards, has been completed. In the facilities visited by approximately 2,500 people a day, İzmir residents will continue to explore the view of the Gulf and the city with peace of mind.
The maintenance work started on February 5, 2024 for the Cable Car Facility in Balçova, where İzmir Metropolitan Municipality provides services at European Union (EU) standards, has been completed.  In 2015, a meticulous process was carried out at the facility, which was renovated and put into service. In addition, invitations were sent to the İzmir Branch of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) and the Bursa Branch of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers of TMMOB for the annual periodic controls of the facility and reporting. İzmir residents will continue to explore the view of the Gulf and the city with peace of mind in the facilities, which were visited by approximately 2,500 people a day when they were in operation.
What is being done?
In the facility, annual, monthly and weekly maintenance is carried out without interruption under the guidance of the manufacturer's recommendations, usage, maintenance and repair manuals. Within the scope of the annual periodic maintenance work, which must be carried out once a year, all moving parts in the system are overhauled. Parts that need to be replaced within the scope of measurement tolerances such as instructions and service lives are replaced, and improvement and maintenance work is carried out on automation and electrical systems. Maintenance is carried out by technicians and technicians trained in their field and within İZULAŞ A.Ş. by keeping the controls and records up-to-date.
In accordance with EN 12927-8 standard, the rope magnetic control test (MRT) of the facility is completed every 6 months during the year. In addition, the maintenance of the electricity generators that ensure the uninterrupted operation of the facility and the electricity transformers of the facility are also regularly monitored. Daily operation controls are completed and recorded before and during the day. The operations are also supervised by occupational safety experts.

Established in İzmir in 1974, the facility was renovated and put back into service in 2015 and includes observation terraces, binoculars and recreation areas. The facility has a total of 20 cabins. While the colorful cabins reflect the invigorating spirit of İzmir, each cabin can carry up to 8 passengers. The cable car ride takes about 3 minutes. Along the 810-meter line, an average of 1,200 passengers are carried in 60 minutes.
