According to the World Health Organization, people over the age of 65 constitute the elderly population. In this context, demographic aging is the result of two basic phenomena. The decrease in fertility and mortality means that the society is gradually aging. The world and Türkiye are in a significant demographic transformation process. According to TÜİK (Turkish Statistical institute) data, while the elderly population rate in Türkiye was 4.3% in 1990, this rate increased to 10.2% by the end of 2023. As of the end of 2023, 4 million 479 thousand 525 people live in Izmir and the rate of elderly people living in the city is 12.8 percent. According to this rate, the population aged 65 and over in Izmir has reached 573 thousand 856. In light of the current data, Advanced Age Action Plan, prepared in partnership with the relevant units of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and city shareholders, aims to increase the comfort of life by addressing the lives of elderly individuals in a multifaceted manner.
