The Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Ankara, Elvis Antonio Alam Lora, and his delegation visited the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Dr. Cemil Tugay, at his office. During the visit, the development of bilateral trade and opportunities for cooperation in various fields were discussed, and Ambassador Lora expressed his admiration for İzmir.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay hosted the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Ankara, Elvis Antonio Alam Lora, and his delegation at his office in İzmir Sanat. Ambassador Elvis Antonio Alam Lora's spouse Hala Hraiz Deir Atani de Alam, Ambassador Lora's guests Tania Yvette Hache Alvarez, the Honorary Consul of the Dominican Republic to İzmir Recep Özekinci, Minister Counsellor of the Dominican Republic to the Republic of Türkiye Ramy Makhlouf Malek, Assistant to the Honorary Consul & Officer for Economic Affairs Gökay Dikmen and the Mayor of Bayraklı İrfan Önal, and his spouse Gökçe Önal were also at the meeting.
Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay and Ambassador Lora agreed that relations between the countries and cities should be further developed, and cultural events and reciprocal visits could be organized for this purpose.

 “I admire İzmir”
Ambassador Lora, who said he has visited İzmir many times, stated that he feels very comfortable and happy in İzmir, saying, “İzmir has a very special place in both my soul and my heart. I admire the city. For me, there are three important cities in the Mediterranean: Beirut, Alexandria, and İzmir.”
Ambassador Lora noted that he loves İzmir's warm weather, sea, and cuisine, and he feels a special closeness to İzmir as he was born near the sea. Lora stated that he started watching Turkish TV series, especially during the pandemic, and this increased his interest in the Turkish culture. Ambassador Lora also mentioned that trade relations between the two countries are developing.

Tourism was also discussed.
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay congratulated Recep Özekinci, the newly appointed Honorary Consul of the Dominican Republic to İzmir. Ambassador Elvis Antonio Alam Lora stated that Recep Özekinci's appointment as Honorary Consul would be an important milestone in the relations between İzmir and Türkiye with the Dominican Republic.
Recep Özekinci, the Honorary Consul of the Dominican Republic to İzmir, also expressed that reciprocal fairs and events could be organized between İzmir and the Dominican Republic.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Lora presented Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay two books, one about Türkiye-Latin America relations and the other containing a selection of Dominican poets. Mayor Tugay, in turn, presented Ambassador Lora with a plaque bearing the inscription "İzmir".
