Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Dr. Cemil Tugay hosted Consul General of Japan in İstanbul, Iwama Ryoji, at his office. Emphasizing their readiness to strengthen cooperation between Japan and İzmir, Mayor Tugay stated, “We are always open to organizing events to promote İzmir in Japan and Japan in İzmir.”
Consul General Iwama Ryoji, who was in the city for the “Japanese Sakura Breeze – Japanese Culture Days” organized in cooperation with the Japan İzmir Intercultural Friendship Association (JIKAD) and the Consulate General of Japan in İstanbul, visited Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay at the Open Office, accompanied by Vice Consul Fujimori Nozomu and Honorary Consul of Japan in İzmir, Neşe Gök. Also attending the meeting were İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Zeki Yıldırım, Chairman of the Board of İZULAŞ Prof. Dr. Yalçın Alver, and Deputy Secretary General of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Övünç Özgen.

Tugay: We hope for new opportunities to promote İzmir
Mayor Tugay stated, “Japan is one of the countries we have always considered a friend. As İzmir, we have ideas and expectations regarding the further development of our relations with Japan. İzmir is one of Türkiye’s most important cities, with a history spanning 8,500 years. We want İzmir to be better known and hope for new opportunities to promote our city in Japan. I would very much like to meet and connect with representatives of Japanese companies that have investments in İzmir and Manisa. We are always ready to provide any support they may need. We are also always open to organizing events to promote İzmir in Japan and Japan in İzmir.”

Ryoji: I would like to personally experience the beauty of İzmir
Expressing that Japanese tourists are pleased to visit İzmir, Consul General Iwama Ryoji said, “Thank you very much for stating that you will continue to support Japan–İzmir relations. By identifying specific areas of cooperation, relations between Japanese municipalities and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will gradually develop step by step. I plan to visit İzmir more frequently. We can also work together on connecting with Japanese companies. I would like to personally experience the beauty of İzmir in order to promote it more effectively in Japan.”
