Strengthening İzmir’s bond with the arts, the festival once again raises the curtain, supporting continuity in the performing arts while enriching the city’s shared cultural memory through a program spread across multiple venues.
Throughout the festival, numerous performances by local and international theatre groups, workshops, talks, and children’s plays will take place at various locations across İzmir. The program kicks off on March 27 with four different performances, offering a vibrant and diverse schedule across the city’s cultural centers, squares, and stages.
Four Performances
The festival will start on March 27 at 15:00 at Sabancı Kültür Merkezi with Short Plays by the Experimental Theatre Group of Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts. On the same day, at 16:00, Yapboz Dünya will stage Fiko’s Hut on Kıbrıs Şehitleri Caddesi. At 17:00, Butterfly Elves by Stelzen Art will be performed at Gündoğdu Meydanı. At 20:30, Meçhul Paşa by Tiyatro Hayali will be staged at Tepekule Congress and Exhibition Center.
Workshops and Theatre Performances
On March 28 at 11:00, Merve Engin will conduct a Commedia dell’arte Workshop at Bayetav Sanat. At 12:00, Tiyatro Karma will stage the children’s play The Chalk Tree at İzmir Sanat. At 13:00, the movement-based puppet theatre workshop Creating a Character will be held at Tarihi Bıçakçı Han by Yapboz Sanat/Adem Dağlar. At 20:00, Short Plays by the Experimental Theatre Group of Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts will be restaged at Sabancı Kültür Merkezi. At the same time, Übüleşme by Oyun Laboratuvarı will be staged at İzmir Sanat.
Talks, Workshops and Performances
On March 29 at 11:30, the Commedia dell’arte Workshop by Merve Engin will take place again at Bayetav Sanat. At 13:00, the movement-based puppet theatre workshop Creating a Character will be held at Tarihi Bıçakçı Han. Short Plays will be performed again at 15:00 and 20:00 at Sabancı Kültür Merkezi. At 18:00, the talk Behiç Ak – Theatre Journey, moderated by Prof. Dr. Semih Çelenk, will be held at the Youth Theatre. At 20:00, The Grand Plan by Tiyatro Proje No:2 will be staged at İzmir Sanat.
Theatre Across the City
On March 30, all performances will begin at 20:00: The Father by Oyun Atölyesi at Tepekule Congress and Exhibition Center, Soft Suspicion by Performance Research LAB at İzmir Sanat, Konken Party by Tiyatro Kare at Güzelbahçe Atatürk Cultural Center, and Short Plays at Sabancı Kültür Merkezi. On March 31, Short Plays will be staged again at Sabancı Kültür Merkezi. On the same day, Günce by Tiyatrohane will be performed at Tire Municipality Cultural Center, and Gözbağcı by Animus Theatre will be staged at İzmir Sanat. All performances will begin at 20:00.
The Festival Continues in April
The festival will continue in April with a wide range of performances. On April 1 at 20:00, Physical Theatre Research will stage Clown Jam at İzmir Sanat. On April 2 at 20:00, two performances will take place: Üç Günlük Dünyada Bir Muhsin Bey by Flanör Puppetry and Performing Arts at İzmir Sanat, and Güle Güle Diva by Tiyatro Kök 35 at Torbalı İsmail Uygur Cultural Center. On April 3 at 14:00, a talk titled On Theatre Posters: Emre Duygu – Uğurcan Ataoğlu, moderated by Umut Altıntaş, will be held at the Youth Theatre. At 20:00, Apsolit by Strandom Arthouse will be staged at İzmir Sanat, and Tebdil by 2383 Yapım will be performed at Bayetav Sanat.
Children’s Plays and Workshops
On April 4 at 11:30, Oğuzhan Vartolioğlu will conduct a workshop titled A New Model in Acting Training: Puppetry at Bayetav Sanat. At 12:00, Assitej Sahne will stage the children’s play The Smallest Story in the World at İzmir Sanat. At 15:00, Boş Sahne will perform the children’s play Çimidi at the same venue. At 20:00, Tiyatro Peron will present Işıltılı Haşereler at Peron Sanat, while at 20:30, Bornova Municipality City Theatre will stage Count Öderland at Sevda Şener Stage.
A Packed Program
On April 5 at 11:30, Oğuzhan Vartolioğlu will conduct another workshop titled Mask in Acting Training at Bayetav Sanat. At 12:00, Boş Sahne will perform the children’s play aBzu at İzmir Sanat. At 20:00, Ayak Bacak Fabrikası by Cihangir Atölye Sahnesi will be staged at İzmir Sanat, and Mefisto by Tiyatro Ansambi will be performed at Gaziemir Atatürk Cultural Center. On April 6 at 20:00, Dansöz by Mek’an Sahne will be staged at İzmir Sanat, while Souvenirs by Claire and Antho will be performed at Sabancı Kültür Merkezi.
Recitals, Workshops and Performances
On April 7 at 20:00, Müjde Productions will stage Koş Funda Koş at İzmir Sanat. At the same time, Lena, Leyla ve Diğerleri by Nar Sahne will be performed at Bergama Cultural Center. Chris Iris will perform Gap of 42 at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center Small Hall, and Aysa Production Theatre will stage Eşyanın Tabiatı at İzmir Sanat. On April 9 at 16:00, Chris Iris will conduct the Partner Acrobatics for Beginners workshop at Bayetav Sanat. At 20:00, Lefke Municipality Cittaslow Theatre will stage Lefke 48: A Strike Story at İzmir Sanat, while a recital by Cie Dans Le Sens Opposé will take place at Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center Small Hall. At the same hour, Start with Your Favorite by Tiyatro Hemhâl will be performed at Tarihi Havagazı Fabrikası Kültür Merkezi Art Café, and The Epic of Sheikh Bedreddin will be staged by Toprak Sahne Theatre at Konak Municipality Selahattin Akçiçek Cultural Center.
A Festival to Satisfy Art Lovers
On April 10 at 09:30, Catherine Froment will conduct the workshop The Role of Text in Physical Performance at the French Cultural Center Izmir Cinema Hall. At 14:00, Multiples by Directie & Co. will be performed at Karşıyaka Bazaar, and again at 19:00 at Bornova Küçük Park. At 17:00, Bencha Theater will hold a percussion workshop at Tarihi Havagazı Fabrikası Cultural Center. At 20:00, Raskolnikov by Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre will be staged at İzmir Sanat, The Other by Luz Yapım at Tepekule Congress and Exhibition Center, None of This Happened Today by Defne Production & Tiyatro Terminal at Elhamra Stage, The Twelfth House by Melek Ceylan at the French Cultural Center, and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui by İzmir City Theatres at İsmet İnönü Stage.
The Festival Concludes with Three Performances
On April 11, the final day of the festival, three performances will take place. At 13:00, Tiyatro Pallas will stage the children’s play Famous Brushes at İzmir Sanat. At 20:00, Notbadvideos will present a Mapping Show at the Tarihi Havagazı Fabrikası Cultural Center. At 20:30, Bencha Theater will stage Bencha Theater with Kolka at the same venue.
