Following its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2020, the İzmir Historic Port City continues its preparations for inscription on the permanent list. Final revisions have been made to the nomination dossier, which is planned to be submitted to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the first quarter of 2026. In 2028, the İzmir Historic Port City is expected to be inscribed as İzmir’s third UNESCO World Heritage site, following Ephesus and Bergama.

The works carried out across the historic area stretching from Konak Pier to Kadifekale are being implemented under the coordination of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, with contributions from city institutions, civil society organizations, and universities. The goal is for the İzmir Historic Port City to be inscribed as İzmir’s third UNESCO World Heritage site in 2028, after Ephesus and Bergama.
