European Drama Encounters (EDERED) will be held in İzmir this year with the participation of young people involved in drama and theatre from 11 different countries. Organized in cooperation with İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and the Contemporary Drama Association (Çağdaş Drama Derneği), the programme will take place at the Özdere 100th Year Youth and Sports Campus between 7 and 17 August. Turkish participants will be selected among young people who actively use İzmir Metropolitan Municipality libraries. Applications will open on 11 May.

Held in various European countries since 1982, the European Drama Encounters will this year be hosted by Türkiye in İzmir. Organized through the cooperation of the Directorate of Libraries under the Department of Culture, Arts and Social Affairs of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and the Contemporary Drama Association, the programme serves as an international youth and intercultural exchange gathering that brings together young people in the fields of drama and theatre.
The 10-day programme, scheduled for 7–17 August, will take place at the Özdere 100th Year Youth and Sports Campus. Alongside participants from Türkiye, the programme will welcome young people from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Lithuania, Finland, Austria, France, Croatia, Greece, and Italy.

As part of this year’s programme, Turkish participants will be selected from among young people who actively benefit from İzmir Metropolitan Municipality libraries. The selection process will be carried out within the scope of the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on 19 May and aims to encourage young people’s participation in cultural and artistic activities. Young library users will be able to apply for the international drama camp via the “izmir.art” website.

Application Requirements Announced
Applications for the camp will begin on 11 May and continue until 1 June. High school students between the ages of 14 and 17 who have at least an A2 level of English proficiency and can express themselves in English will be eligible to apply. Applicants should also be interested in drama and theatre or be able to play a musical instrument.

Throughout the programme, participants will take part in creative drama and theatre workshops, storytelling activities, intercultural interaction sessions, music and rhythm workshops, movement and body awareness activities, creative writing practices, and group project work. Participants will also perform in open-stage events and visit libraries as well as various cultural venues.
The European Drama Encounters will conclude with a final performance jointly prepared by the participants.
