Digital Transformation and Cooperation Bridge Between Estonia and İzmir

Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Dr. Cemil Tugay hosted Väino Reinart, Ambassador of Estonia to Ankara, and Daniel Lochner, Honorary Consul of Estonia in İzmir. During the meeting, the parties discussed digitalization, smart cities, green transformation, and potential economic and academic cooperation opportunities between the two countries.

Ambassador Väino Reinart, Honorary Consul Daniel Lochner, and Deputy Head of Mission/Counsellor Tiia Treier paid a visit to Mayor Cemil Tugay. The meeting, held on the occasion of Honorary Consul Lochner assuming office, was also attended by Deputy Secretary General of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and ESHOT Director General Övünç Özgen, along with municipal officials. Stating that he had previously visited İzmir in 2012 and 2013, Ambassador Reinart noted that this was his first visit to the Mayor’s Office. Reinart emphasized that the opening of an honorary consulate in İzmir would help strengthen and deepen relations between the two sides in a more direct manner, while also drawing attention to İzmir’s strong economic potential.

Tugay Emphasizes Cooperation
Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay stated that the establishment of an honorary consulate in İzmir would contribute to advancing relations between the two countries in a closer and stronger manner. Highlighting Estonia’s successful achievements, particularly in the fields of digitalization and information technologies, Tugay said they would be pleased to be part of these exchanges. Stressing that cooperation and mutual partnerships could also be developed not only between the business communities but also among municipalities and universities, Mayor Tugay affirmed that İzmir stands ready to provide all possible support to foster closer relations with Estonia.

“We Provide IT Solutions to Many Countries, Including Türkiye”
Ambassador Väino Reinart stated that Estonia has been carrying out significant work especially in the areas of green transformation, digital transformation, and smart cities, and that they aim to further develop business opportunities between Estonia and Türkiye. Emphasizing Estonia’s strong position as a hub for information technologies, Reinart noted that the country provides IT solutions to many countries around the world, including Türkiye, and underlined their intention to visit İzmir in the future with business delegations. Ambassador Reinart also stated that both sides have much to learn from one another, adding that Türkiye has achieved significant success in the field of health tourism and enjoys a high level of customer satisfaction.
