A delegation coordinated by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality took part in a technical study visit to Copenhagen, Denmark, as part of the Nature Based Engagement for Rainwater Sustainability (NERS) Project, funded under the financial cooperation framework between Türkiye and the European Union.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality carried out a technical study visit to Copenhagen, Denmark, as part of the EU-supported NERS – Nature Based Engagement for Rainwater Sustainability Project. During the visit, the project team had the opportunity to examine examples of nature-based rainwater management solutions that could serve as models for future implementation in İzmir. The project is financed under the financial cooperation framework between the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye through the EU–Türkiye Climate Change Grant Programme. The contracting authority is the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, while the Directorate of Climate Change serves as the end beneficiary. Coordinated by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in partnership with Karşıyaka Municipality, the project aims to improve rainwater management through nature-based solutions, increase local participation, expand the use of green infrastructure, and strengthen institutional capacity for climate change adaptation.

Sharing Experience Through a Technical Study Visit
As part of the project, the delegation participated in a technical study visit to Copenhagen. The primary objective was to gain first-hand experience by examining technical, spatial, and governance approaches that could be adapted for the pilot implementation sites planned in İzmir.

The programme included visits to Enghave Climate Park, Carlsberg Byen / Østen for Humlen, DHI, Tåsinge Square, Venøgade Street, Karens Minde Axis, and the Scandiagade area. During the site visits, participants explored nature-based solutions, the sponge city approach, and innovative practices for managing extreme rainfall.

The knowledge and experience gained during the visit are expected to contribute to the planning of the pilot projects to be implemented in İzmir under the NERS Project and to further strengthen the city's capacity to adapt to climate change.
