Héctor Enrique Jaime Calderón, Ambassador of El Salvador to Türkiye, paid a visit to İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. During the meeting hosted by Deputy Mayor Dr. Zafer Levent Yıldır, Ambassador Calderón proposed the creation of a symbolic monument of friendship between İzmir and El Salvador, such as a bust, park, or street in each location. He also expressed his interest in strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism.

Deputy Mayor Dr. Zafer Levent Yıldır welcomed Ambassador Calderón at İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. The meeting, held at the Open Office, was also attended by Secretary General Zeki Yıldırım, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations Selin Sayın Kapancı, and El Salvador’s Economic Affairs Counsellor Ariel Romero. Providing information about İzmir’s tourism potential, natural assets, and economic activities, Deputy Mayor Yıldır stated that efforts would be undertaken to develop cooperation with El Salvador in a range of areas, particularly tourism and sports. Ambassador Calderón noted that, thanks to the security policies implemented in El Salvador over the past five years, the country has achieved significant progress in attracting investment and boosting tourism. He added that El Salvador is keen to establish stronger ties with İzmir.

Citing the Example of Türkiye Park                                                                                      
Ambassador Calderón also suggested organising events that could bring together İzmir and the city of La Libertad, particularly through surfing, a sport for which both destinations have strong potential. Recalling the example of Türkiye Park in San Salvador, which features a bust of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as well as El Salvador Park in Ankara, where a bust of Salvadoran diplomat José Gustavo Guerrero is located, Ambassador Calderón proposed the development of a similar symbolic project between İzmir and El Salvador, such as a park, avenue, street, or bust. Welcoming the proposal, Deputy Mayor Yıldır stated that both sides could work together on a project in areas of mutual interest and benefit.
