VOLUNTEER REPRESENTATIVES OF IZMIR IN USA |
Tommy Calvert, who is a Committee Member of Bexar Region located in Texas, United States of America (USA), and Prof. Dr. Murat Taş, the Chairman of Turkish American Association located in San Antonio City of the same region, visited Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu.
Prof. Taş highlighted that Izmir is considered to be a very unique place in their region and Turks living in San Antonio cherish Atatürk and added that they selected Izmir to cooperate in several fields.
Tommy Calvert mentioned that he is the local governor of Bexar Region in Texas and added that San Antonio, the 7th largest city in the USA, is similar to Izmir and they are here to build bridges between two cities. Mr. Calvert underlined that they are powerful in aviation, industry, medicine, science and renewable energy sectors and they intend to cooperate with Izmir in these sectors and added “Your people have faith in you. You have a strong infrastructure. This can be understood from your buses, rail systems, ships and general outlook of the city. Religious and cultural differences coexist in Izmir. Visiting the house of the Virgin Mary is a part of duty of pilgrimage. There must be a lot of people who will be interested in historical and religious richness of Izmir. I love Izmir very much. We have planted the first seed. You are an influential and well-loved Mayor of this city. I volunteer to be a representative of you in my country”
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu stated that he will be very honored to contribute to enrich the relationships between two cities.
