Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and President of the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Assembly of Regions Tunç Soyer attended the Congress of the Council of Europe and the High-Level Group Meeting of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union held at the Paris Office of the Council of Europe. Mr. Soyer, President of the Assembly of Regions of the Congress of the Council of Europe, made important statements on human rights and the rule of law. Mayor Soyer shared information on the work of the Congress of the Council of Europe and other European local authorities in this field. In his speech, Soyer emphasized the importance of the protection and promotion of human rights at local and regional level and expressed the commitment of the organization in this field. Tunç Soyer drew attention to the increasing importance of the role of local authorities in ensuring the protection of human rights among local authorities in Europe.
Mayor Soyer shared the successful projects carried out by the Congress of the Council of Europe on combating violence against women, protecting children's rights, securing the environment and other fundamental human rights with the senior executives of the European Union Committee of the Regions. He also emphasized the importance of the implementation of the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights at the local and regional level and expressed the Congress' commitment and supportive work in this regard.
Mayor Soyer also emphasized the importance of special trainings for the implementation of the resolutions of the Congress on the rule of law at local and regional level and expressed his determination to fight against corruption.
