The economist of Oxford Prof. IanGoldin who speaks at the context of the Second Century Economics Congress, stated that ; “Turkey can have a role in taking form the future of the world. The future does not happen by itself. We are making realize it actively. A future that is democratic, respectful of gender equality and human rights, indicate to global development. It is up to us to make a decision  what kind of future we demand.”
The Last day of the 2nd Century Economics Congress organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality went on sessions with the theme of “Invitation to Multiplicity and Unity”. After the speeches of the stakeholder representatives, the Oxford University Globalization and Development Expert; Economist Prof. Dr. IanGoldin made a conversation under the title of “Salvation: From the Global Crisis to a Better World”  IanGoldin said , “the Globalization is now a contentious matter. What happens in one place now impresses all of us. The formidable earthquake in Turkey affected us all. What happened in Ukraine affected us all.
It's time to change in the world.
Prof. Dr. IanGoldin who draws attention to the significance  of climate change in his speech ; remarked that “Climate change is very substantial. Turkey's future is inseparable from the world's future. Comprehending what our choices are for Turkey's future, necessitates understanding where the world is going.
There is a historic ocassion for Turkey. The change of government is possible within two months. A new era commences, but it is also a time for change in the world. We are at a crossing point. Turkey can have a role in taking form the future of the world. The future does not happen by itself. We are making realize it actively. “A hazardous trade flow based on boundaries”
 Ian Goldin who expresses that the way globalization works has changed ; told these statements : “We can say that the Covid epidemic has brought about a major break in globalization. This is being fortified by nationalist currents. I think this situation is very dangerous. I think it is very dangerous for Turkey as well.  Because , if the world plays the role of a more protectionist, more nationalistic structure ; This hinders the opportunities of export. It also hinders the opportunuties of investment in Turkey. And this forces the country to make a choice between east and west. It forces them to do things that are not useful to Turkey. The Protectionist, nationalist movements in the USA, Reducing inflation in America, 1 trillion dollar investment ; the Incentives were utilised to purchase American goods. This is a dangerous trade flow based on boundary. Because the undermining of potential competition, invalidating the innovations, creating new opportunities for corruption…… I see these as a very dangerous process. We should have competition laws. For domestic industries to compete with global economies, but these should not be with economic assistance or with the obscuring of competition. It should be done by providing they have access to good workforce, good procurement processes and good infrastructure.”
“I think Europe is an inherent partner”
Ian Goldin who says he examined the documents produced in the congress; expressed that ““There is so much great content. Too extensive. They are documents that reverberates a very broad base. How can we turn them into economic policies? It's very critical. Turkey is not a wealthy enough country. It is difficult for Turkey to cope with the economic supports in the USA, countries like China or other economies of this size. Especially in terms of government supports. Turkey has an opportunity. There are instructions to be learned by looking at the world. How Turkey will act strategically can be estimated. The major threat we face here is the US insistence on domestic supply. America's insistence that we choose its own products. Because small economies like Turkey need to be able to trade with the world. It should be able to be anywhere in the world like THY. It has a strategic location geographically. It has  advanced, skilled laborforce. It is possible for Turkey to be a bridge between west and east, between north and south, to be a transition point, to be a center of attraction in the world. The Atlantic shifted eastward over Turkey. This is an opportunity. Asia is growing. It is expanding two to three times faster than the Atlantic region. It becomes the largest market and also a source of sales and investment. It becomes a source of opportunities. I believe that Turkey's future is also in Europe. I think Europe is an inherent partner. Turkey's strategic position depends on how globalization will evolve. If we go back to the cold war, that will be really bad. We don't want to move in that sense”.
