FIBA DELEGATION VISITED İZMİR |
İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu hosted the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) delegation as part of Turkey's candidacy for the organization of 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The managing director of the board of directors of the Federation was also included in the delegation.
Mayor Kocaoğlu sent a letter to FIBA President Horacio Muratore in support of Turkey's campaign to host 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and asked Weiss's support for the voting in December, due to the fact that İzmir is among the cities where group matches will be played in the event of Turkey hosts the organization.
Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) Secretary General Serbülent Şengün and TBF International Relations Director Emir Turam also participated. Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu informed FIBA Executive Ingo Weiss about the city and sports facilities, and said that Turkey will successfully carry out the organization with no doubt and that İzmir will do its part as well. Ingo Weiss stated that İzmir appeared to be a beautiful sports city, "His Honor, Mayor Kocaoğlu gives great support for sports. It's a very nice thing," he said.
Turkey and Russia submitted their bids to host the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup as the sole host country, while Philippines along with Indonesia and Japan submitted joint bids to host together, while Argentina and Uruguay both made a bid to host the organization. If Turkey is chosen, İzmir will be one of the cities where group matches will be played. The host(s) of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will be announced during on 9 December 2017.
