EU PROJECT ON CLIMATE CHANGE STARTS
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is qualified to receive a grant at an amount of 150 thousand Euros under the scope of “Capacity Building in the Field of Climate Change in Turkey Grant Scheme” that is financed by the European Union and provided by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
 
The scheme’s aim is to assure gradual harmonization with the EU climate policy and regulation in order to improve Turkey’s efforts to minimize climate change and increase public awareness. The grant fund provided to Izmir will be used for preparing plans for creating 2050 and 2100 climate models in the city and adaptation to climate change.
 
“Framework for Resilient Cities: Green-Oriented Adaptation” project launched by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Presidency of Environment Protection and Control Office, Branch Directorate of Health Cities and Clean Energy shall be implemented with Landscape Researches Association (PAD). The purpose of this 18-month project is to create a city resistant to climate change by using, improving and supporting green infrastructure in Izmir.
Izmir climate models for years 2050 and 2100 will be designed under the scope of this project.
 
Urban infrastructure system of Balçova District, which is selected as the pilot area, will be mapped and land use & change models will be prepared.
Urban ecosystem services will be mapped.
 
Plan decisions will be made to assure that Izmir adapts to climate change. 
A guide book explaining all information obtained and created throughout the project process will be published. 
Trainings and seminars will be organized for other municipalities, non-governmental organizations, academicians, students and related organizations.
