Under the leadership of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, a Solar Power Plant (SPP) is being installed on the roof of Tire Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Stadium. The project, where the work is in its final stage, is the first application within the scope of the "Public Energy Performance Agreement" in Turkey. With the commissioning of the power plant, Tire Municipality will meet more than half of its electricity consumption.
 
Under the leadership of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, in cooperation with IZENERJİ, İZGÜNEŞ companies and Tire Municipality, solar power plant is being installed on the roof of Tire Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Stadium. The project stands out as the first application within the scope of the legislation regulated as "Public Energy Performance Contract" in Turkey, known as ESCO in the world. With the solar power plant built on the roof of the stadium with an investment of 29 million lira, without using public resources, Tire Municipality will meet more than half of its electricity consumption. Thanks to 2 thousand 260 panels to be placed on an area of approximately 6 thousand square meters, 1 million 890 thousand kilowatt-hours of energy will be produced annually. The power plant, which has an installed power of 1,300 kWp, will be operated by İZGÜNEŞ for 15 years. During this period, Tire Municipality will receive 10 percent discounted electricity, and at the end of the period, the ownership of the power plant will be transferred to Tire Municipality free of charge.
 
Public energy needs are met without a special budget
IZENERJİ Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ali Ercan Türkoğlu, mentioned upon the importance of the investment and said: “Tire's economy is benefited in a way that supports the renewable energy vision. It is a project that will meet 70 percent of the energy needs of Tire Municipality alone. Our project is being implemented in a way that will pay for the investment with a savings of 15 years, in cooperation with the private sector, without using the resources of the Metropolitan Municipality and Tire Municipality. “We provide the energy needs of the public without the need for a special budget.”
 
“An investment made without using public resources”
Stating that they are very excited about this investment in Tire, Tire Municipality Deputy Mayor Sefa Yıldırım said, “It is very important to produce clean energy without harming the environment and nature. For the first time in Turkey, a local government implemented the stadium roof solar power project within the scope of the Energy Performance Agreement. There is no local government or public institution that has been carried out this project before. As Tire Municipality, İZGÜNEŞ and İZENERJİ, we carry out this work under the leadership of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. We are making an investment without using the equity resources of the municipality, public institutions and organizations. We will also earn income from this. The electricity produced will meet 50 percent of the electricity consumed by Tire Municipality. This is a serious number. We have monthly electricity expenses of 2.5 million lira. "With this work, we will save approximately 1.5 million lira in the municipality's electricity costs," he said.
