We want “Ropax” in Izmir-Thesselonike line |
Under the leadership of Metropolitan Municipality Aziz Kocaoğlu, Izmir businessmen and tourism professionals visited Thesselonike; on the second day of their contact, they discussed in detail seaway development of transportation between two cities in Thesselonike Port Authority. After Thesselonike Port Authority S.A. CEO Dimitros Makris’ presentation, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu stated that integrated transportation of sea and rail should be realized and added “This association is important for both cities and will make returns. However sometimes we want deeply but we cannot complete the things. We should persuade the authorities in decision making mechanisms and serve out.”
Izmir Chamber of Commerce Chairman of Executive Board Ekrem Demirtaş underlined that Greeks are very successful in navigation and added that Ropax ships which transport passangers and Ro-ro can be strong in this line. Demirtaş stated that “We only need brave ship owners. In Izmirt port, all problems are solved. We are ready for these kinds of cruises. Repubic of Turkey gives incentives for charter flights per plane. For the ships which will make Ropax cruises, fuel oil support can be requested from our President. We can solve this issue in the meeting of Çipras and Davutoğlu in Izmir.”
Chamber of Shipping Izmir Branch Chairperson Yusuf Öztürk stated that Izmir-Thesselonike line will be profitable from the aspect of Ropax ships which will do tourism and load transportation.
Thesselonike Port CE Dimitros Makris stated that both himself and Mayor Yannis Butaris are very willing for this project.
After brifing and port tour, Izmir committee passed on to Turkey’s Thesselonike Consulate General, they are welcomed by Consulate General Orhan Yalman Okan and his wife Aslıhan Okan. They visited Ataturk’s house there and Thesselonike Municipality Mayor Butaris accompanied the group.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu signed Ataturk House Book of Honor, “We are pleased, honoured to be in the presence of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and we brought him lots of love, regards and gratitude. I would have known you know that, Izmir and Izmir people love you as you love us at least.” He wrote.
