European Union Turkey Delegators President Hansjoerg Haber and ambassadors and diplomatic agents and mission vice president of 18 countries of European Union visited Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu in his office.

Delegators President Hansjoerg Haber gave a speech in the visit in which Syrian immigrants and social, cultural and economical effects of this immigration in the city and reminded that in the Turkey-European Union (EU) summit which will be made in Brussels, together with Turkey-EU relations, irregular immigration which is a very hot issue for Izmir will be discussed and said “For several weeks, we’ve gained information from different points. We have information about how Turkey handles this hard situation. We are in a continuous touch with our addressees in Ankara. Haber asked Mayor Kocaoğlu’s worriment about the immigration in view of the city and said “It is very important for us to take your point of view.” He said.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu said “Our concern is about human. In Aegean, many youngs, kids, women etc. have been losing their lives for journey to hope. Such a dense immigration is a heavy burden. In the first days of Syrian events,it was thought that the events will fade away in a very short time and added:

“It was estimated that the immigrants will return back to their country and this problem will end. When the time extended, the issue has become much bigger. Still in Turkey, there is population of 2.5 million immigrants. It is not possible for these people to make a stable life for them. European Union and United Nations started to make a solution. You’ve come for this purpose as well. Thank you indeed. We all have to do our best. As a country and as a human being.”

Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu stated that last week they had many contacts in Brussels and reminded that “It is not only Turkey’s benefit, but also European Union’s  that Turkey to be in European Union and to make relations stronger.”

In the meeting, guest committee gifted a necktie which was made by European Presidency to Izmir Mayor and Mayor Kocaoğlu gifted a silver rellef of Clock Tower to the guests.
