A Call for Cooperation to Greek Tourism Professionals |
A “Tourism Facility” was held by Greece Embassy and Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) to encourage tourism cooperation between business associations in Turkey and Greece and dynamise tourism between two countries. 98 companies from Turkey and 47 companies from Greece attended the event which was organized in Izmir Swiss Hotel.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoglu made the opening speech and wished the meeting to bring benefits for both countries’ tourism. Mayor Kocaoglu said; “We are by the coast of the same waters. We are the children of the same sea, inheritors of the same history and parts of the same geography. Geologists claim that Aegean sea will turn out to be a land in 500 years time. Seeing that we will come together eventually then why don’t we join together today, why don’t we come closer and act together? I appreciate the efforts of Greece related to our membership in EU. We can make better together. We gathered together with Municipality Mayor of Thessaloniki in Izmir in last February. On that day, we said that close affairs between two cities will make contribution for not only Turkish-Greek cooperation, but also for world peace.
Mayor Kocaoglu said “I believe Turkey-Greece cooperation in my heart. Tourism is common share for both countries. We can make good moves for tourism by realizing joint projects. We should consider our cultural and historical wealth as complementary factors not competitives. We should protect our water and nature together in our projects. For instance, we have an excellent gastronomy. We have been included in gourmet city network. There is no city included in this network from Greece. We should collaborate and improve our gastronomy in our regions. For instance, we can take first step by making Athens and Thessaloniki members of the network. It should be improved by simplifying entry applications in two ways in Greek Islands. In both countries, foreign trade volume is 5.5 billion dollars in year 2014. We need to increase the amount by making partnerships and working together. I wish the meeting shall bring benefits for both countries’ tourisms.
TURSAB President Basaran Ulusoy proposed to make “Travel Turkey” fair alternately. He said “We cannot change the past, however, we can be the builders of future.”
Greece Ambassador Kyriakos Loukakis stated that both economic affairs and friendships between the two countries are being strengthened through tourism and added that he was very pleased to organize this event in Izmir.
