Tunç Soyer gathers Honorary Consuls |
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer informed about International Izmir Projects at the meeting of the Members of the Association of Honorary Consuls. The main agenda of the meeting was to increase the worldwide recognition of Izmir and the steps it took towards becoming a world city.
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer said that Izmir was supposed to be a world city with its wealth and potential but its current location is not satisfactory. Tunç Soyer said "We have a responsibility to promote this city better to the world and to move the world to Izmir. That's why we need to build a city that is compatible with that potential and to improve the quality of life in this region,"
Explaining that they have developed a strategic partnership with an airline company to start direct flights to İzmir, Soyer said: “Direct flights from Izmir to Milan, Skopje, Prague, Saint Petersburg and Budapest will begin in April-May. We consider this as a preliminary step towards being a world city ”.
Soyer officially confirmed that they would open the Moscow office, one of the promotion offices of İzmir abroad, on March 17, and the Brussels office in April and reminded that they had aspired to the 2026 Botanical EXPO and 2030 World EXPO and added"We will host Terra Madre in 2021. Terra Madre is the biggest gastronomy fair in the world and Izmir will be the only city outside Italy to host this fair for the first time. We will have the opportunity to introduce the flavors of İzmir to the whole world and the people of Izmir to the world’s flavors. We will host the United Cities and Local Governments Culture Summit in 2021. ”
President of Association of the Honorary Consuls Union and Honorary Consul of France in Izmir Zeliha Toprak said: "Our Mayor illustrated civilized city of our dreams built with fashion, athletics and tourism; fed with organic food. We are interested in participating in all branding and promotion projects of İzmir.”
Vice President of Association of the Honorary Consuls Union and Honorary Consul of Portugal in Izmir Ahmet Fahri Yiğitbaşı said, "We appreciate the work conducted by our Mayor Tunç Soyer to bring Izmir among the world's leading cities and to make it the center of attraction."
