​Railway Industry in Fair Izmir

Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer attended to the opening ceremony of Eurasia Rail – International Rolling Stock, light rail systems, Infrastructure and Logistics Exhibition, the only industry exhibition in Europe and Asia and the world’s 3rd largest exhibition.

Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer delivered a speech at the exhibition opening ceremony and highlighted that they want to follow the footsteps of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who blazed a trail in the history of Turkish railways and to increase the railway system network in the city up to 480 kilometers.

The Metropolitan Mayor Soyer underlined that the railway system investments in Izmir will continue nonstop and added:
“179-km railways system will be increased up to 340 kilometers in the medium term and up to 480 kilometers in the long run. We want to use light rail system network more frequently for urban transportation. Buca-Halkapınar Metro and Çiğli Tramway projects are designed and submitted to the Ministry. Let me take this opportunity to reach out to our Minister. We have to enable a transportation network in a world that globalizes but also becomes smaller.”
The Mayor Tunç Soyer also announced that he has asked to start working on a tramway line that goes from ESBAŞ to Fuar Izmir.

Selim Dursun, the Deputy Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of Eurasia Rail Exhibition; he mentioned that local companies’ participation to the exhibition has increased from 40 percent to 60 percent and continued: “Railways is an environment friendly transportation method and it is very important for our future and children. This exhibition will expand our horizon and encourage us”.

Ali İhsan Uygun, the Director General of TCDD – Turkish State Railways, mentioned that the railways have been improving all around the world with a stunning speed and added: “It is important to host this exhibition in Izmir, the pearl of Aegean, after Ankara and Istanbul because the railways first started in this city. We have 136-km long rail system thank to cooperation of central and local governments. The railway will improve our entire country, but primarily Izmir”.

Eurasia Rail hosts 200 exhibitors from 25 countries. Besides influential exhibitors from counties such as Germany, France, Czech Republic, China, Italy and Russia, Izmir Metro and IZBAN attend to Eurasia Rail.
