Japanese Consul General Nishimaki’s Visit to Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Soyer |
Tunç Soyer expressed his satisfaction related to the development of the relations between the two countries. Saying that Izmir doesn’t have a sister city in Japan, Soyer added that: “If we have a sister city, we can deepen and enhance our relations more and there will be lots of things to do. A sister city bond can nurture and strengthen relationships between us. There is already a sympathy and intimacy between our peoples. If we can strengthen this with a sister city bond, the economy, trade and brotherhood of people can grow and develop further.”
The Consul General Nishimaki, who had been in Izmir due to the Japan Sakura Inspiration Izmir Japan Culture Week Events organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and JIKAD (Japan Izmir Intercultural Friendship Association), spoke in Turkish at the meeting. Nishimaki said: “Turkey is my second homeland. The activities of Japanese business people in Turkey are increasing steadily. We're in a much better point than we were 20 years ago. The Japanese people is very happy to work in Turkey. We want to improve our relations with Turkey and Izmir.”
While Nishimaki presented a table clock and a calendar to Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of Izmir, Tunç Soyer presented a Clock Tower embossed plaquet to Nishimaki.
