​Izmir is the Most Awarded City for its Sustainable Practices

In the Best Sustainable Practices Contest Award Ceremony, an event organized as a part of “4th International Sustainable Buildings Symposium” on July 18-20, 2019, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality received four grand prizes for its four projects.

The four awards were presented for urban, environment, social responsibility and rural area categories.

Urban specialists from Ankara University, Gazi University, Texas Tech University, Texas A & M Commerce University, American Institute of Architects and US Green Buildings Council were on the award jury and, based on the assessments of this jury, the Metropolitan Municipality won the grand prizes in the Best Sustainable Practices Contest in the following categories: “Izmirdeniz – Refreshing relationship between People of Izmir and the Sea” project in the “Sustainable City” category, “Portakal Vadisi – Orange Valley” project in the “Sustainable Environment” category, "Gürçeşme Doğa Keşif Parkı ve Kuşaklar Arası Etkileşim Merkezi – Gürçeşme Wild Life Discovery Park and Intergenerational Interaction Center" project in the “Sustainable Social Responsibility” category and , "Sasalı İklim Duyarlı Tarım Eğitim ve Araştırma Enstitüsü  - Sasalı Climate Sensitive Agricultural Training and Research Institute" project in the “Sustainable Agriculture” category.

Serving the ultimate goal
Suphi Şahin, the Deputy General Secretary of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, delivered a speech during the symposium gala organized in Dallas on July 19, 2019 and reported as follows: “All our efforts and the Strategic Plan of our Municipality cover all of 17 sustainable development goals of UN. In respect of goals, this allows Izmir to integrate with the world as well as making it a preferred center of attraction for international partnerships and investments”.
