​French marines visited the Metropolis

Commander Vincent Mangan, the Captain of “Capricorne”, the French Naval Forces’ mine hunter coastal harbored in Izmir Port, and Staff Colonel Valery Sens, the French Defense Attaché before the Embassy in Turkey and the delegation accompanying them visited Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Zeliha Toprak, the Honorary French Consul in Izmir, was also present at the meeting. 

Dr. Sırrı Aydoğan, the Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, received the delegation and highlighted the friendship between these two countries by noting that the relationships between France and Turkey date back to 1500s. Mr. Aydoğan reminded the abundance of French words frequently used in the Turkish language. 

The Commander Vincent Mangan explained that he visited Izmir 12 years ago with another French military vessel and added that Izmir has come a long way. The Staff Colonel Valery Sens reported that they have very strong connections with the Turkish Naval Forces and they have come to conduct a military drill; the Staff Colonel added that they will be in Izmir this week, in Marmaris next week and then they will go to Istanbul. The Mine Hunter Coastal’s Captain Commander Vincent Mangan presented the emblem of “Capricorne” mine hunter coastal to Dr. Sırrı Aydoğan, the Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, as a souvenir of this visit.
