​First Certificates of EU Project to Metro Personnel

In “Mahir Eller (Skilled Hands) Project”, an EU Project co-organized with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, 14 female subway and trolley operators successfully passed their exams and proved their professional competency. 

Total 69 personnel working for Izmir Metro A.Ş. were awarded with Certificates of Competency; 16 personnel as “Urban Railway Systems Catenary Maintenance Personnel”, 33 personnel as “Urban Railway Systems Traffic Controller”, 20 personnel as “Urban Railways Systems Train Operator”.

As a part of this Project, Izmir Metro A.Ş. became the first organization that certified its personnel in the profession groups of “Urban Railway Systems Catenary Maintenance Personnel” and “Urban Railway Systems Traffic Controller” and it is known as the organization with the highest number of female operators in the project.

“Urban Railway Systems Train Operator” project is the group of profession mainly dominated by the women; 14 out of 20 metro and trolley operators were women.

First, the participants of the program took a technical exam so that they might be awarded with a certificate of competency and the successful participants took the on-the-job exam. The assessment was based on national occupational standards and competency. All Izmir Metro A.Ş. personnel participating to this project proved their competency according to the “National Occupational Standards”.

The project, financed by the EU and co-organized with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, aims to train personnel in 12 cities and document their occupational competency. Aegean Chamber of Industry (EBSO) is in charge of Izmir operations of the project.
