The Ambassador Gomina noted that they want to improve the relationships between Benin and Izmir and added “Slums are common in Benin. We know that you have a different method to handle urban transformation projects in Izmir. We really liked the method and project you follow. We want to learn from you the clues of this process.”
Sırrı Aydoğan, the Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, reported that they have an agreeable and on-site transformation approach when it comes to urban transformation and that their doors are always open to a delegation from Benin and they will provide any support within their means and added: “In Izmir, we really function as a role model in terms of urban transformation. Everyone has the same neighbors; everyone lives in the same location but the people move into earthquake resistant and healthy buildings with playgrounds and parks. More importantly, we do this with their consent”.
Sırrı Aydoğan presented a silver model of the Clock Tower, the symbol of Izmir, to the Benin Ambassador Gomina at the end of the visit.
