Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club Handball Women’s Team matched with Madeira Andebol SAD, Portugal representative, in the third round of the European Handball Federation European Cup (EHF European Cup).
The first match will be played on 13-14 November in Izmir and the return match will be played on 20-21 November in Portugal. Losing their first match with the Greek team A.E.S.H. Pylea with a score of 29-28 in the second round, the Izmir team won the rematch with a 9-point margin with a score of 28-19 and managed to go to the next round.
Stating that they played their first match in the international arena this season and that the team was excited and stressed because of this, Coach Senar Dayat expressed “In the first game we played with Pylea in front of our own audience, we didn't really know our opponent's understanding of the game. We lost even though we were ahead by six-point margin. In the rematch, we took the necessary precautions and set up a superior game and passed the round. We are very happy that we left behind the first stage of the European goal.”
Dayat said “We will face an opponent like us who has been playing high-level matches in Europe for years. Portuguese women’s handball has been on the rise lately. Correspondence continues with both the European Handball Federation and Madeira Andebol SAD for both matches to be played in Izmir.”
