A new statement was made by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality about the Economics Congress of the Second Century, which was announced to be postponed due to the earthquake disaster experienced in our country. The congress will be held on March 15-21 with the invitation of solidarity to build the Turkey of the future.
 
The statement made by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality about the Economics Congress of the Second Century, which was postponed due to the earthquake disaster, is as follows:
"Turkey is experiencing one of the biggest disasters in history on the centenary of the Economics Congress, which started in Izmir on February 17, 1923. The Second Century Economics Congress hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality was postponed due to the great earthquake disaster on February 6. The new date of the congress has been set as March 15-21, 2023. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality invites all stakeholders of the Economics Congress of the Second Century to solidarity on March 15-21 in order to build the Turkey of the future.”
The scope of the congress has been expanded
The scope of the congress organized with the title We are building the Turkey of the future has been expanded to include the topic of resilient cities and economics. The congress will include sessions on the importance of civil solidarity and local governments in the construction of Turkey.
At the main congress, where future economic strategies will be discussed, extensive negotiations will take place on the long-term consequences of the massive destruction caused by the earthquake of February 6, 2023, and policy proposals will be discussed. A series of sessions will be held on the creation of cities that are compatible with nature and resistant to disasters, disaster management, the economic and social dimensions of disasters.
Soyer: "It is a call to a new economic dream”
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, who made a statement on the subject, said: “The Economics Congress of the Second Century is an invitation. On February 6, 2023, we experienced one of the biggest earthquakes our country has ever seen. There has never been such material and moral damage in any disaster before. In such a natural disaster, we realized that we have no choice but to stand up by holding on to each other. In an era when cities are destroyed by earthquakes and we upset the balance of nature, this congress is an invitation of Turkey to Turkey and Turkey to the World. The Economics Congress of the Second Century is an invitation to solidarity, awakening, conscience, our nature, multiplicity and unity.
Our invitation has only one purpose: to build the future together. There is no doubt that our nature is also in this union. All the economic systems and cities that we have built by ignoring the existence of nature are Decaying sooner or later. There is only one reason why we persistently ignore this fact. It is a man's blindsided ambition that he cannot resist and economic models based on provoking this ambition even more. For this very reason, the Economic Congress of the Second Century is a call to a new life and a new economic dream that brings this life into existence.”
The expert meetings were completed
December Dec. 1, 2022, farmers, workers and industrialists – merchants – tradesmen meetings were held within the scope of stakeholder meetings that formed the first phase of the congress and draft declarations were shared with the public. August 10 and December 1, 2022, the first phase of the congress was held in the scope of the stakeholder meetings. At the four expert meetings that make up the second stage, these declarations prepared by the stakeholders were evaluated academically and recommendation decisions were made for the main congress. The expert meetings of the congress were completed on February 4.
