The 4th International Marathon İzmir Avek was held in Road Label status. This marathon,which was organized by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in association with World Athletics, was run with the participation of athletes from all over the world and from our country. The slogan of the run organized in honor of the 100th anniversary of our Republic has been determined as "We are Celebrating the 100th Anniversary Marathon in İzmir Marathon". In the breathtaking marathon, Ethiopia came first in women and Kenya in men.
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer and the Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu also attended the 10-kilometer 19 May Road Run within the scope of the organization. Mayor Soyer, who also gave the start of the run, said that the İzmir Marathon was also a trace of goodness. There has been a feast of enthusiasm in the city, we are all very excited," he said.
The fourth of the İzmir Marathon was run this year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The marathon was organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer with the purpose of making İzmir a sports city. 30 elite athletes from 23 countries and 5 thousand people from all over Turkey attended the marathon, which created an international festival atmosphere in İzmir, and the 19 May Road Run, which started afterward.
The start of the international race sponsored by Avek Automotive, Decathlon, Izenergy, Izmirli and Züber,was given together with  Assistant Secretary General of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Ertuğrul Tugay, the Head of the Turkish Athletics Federation Fatih Çintımar, Head of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department Hakan Orhunbilge, Head of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club Ersan Odaman. The athletes who took the start made the first turn before reaching Karşıyaka Bostanlı Pier, made the second turn from İzmir Marina at the entrance to Heydar Aliyev Boulevard and completed the contest at the starting point.
The Brand of Kenya and Ethiopia
The Marathon İzmir Avek has the fastest racetrack in Turkey with 42 kilometers and 195 meters. In this track, Ethiopian Sheware Alene Amare has won the first place with 2.32.43 in women's and Benard Kipkorir from Kenya in men's with 2.10.25. In women, Ethiopian Kebebush Yisma has come second with 2.32.49 and Kenyan Emmah Cheruto Ndiwa has come third with 2.35.08. Hammington Kimaiyo from Kenya has been second with 2.12.38 and Kenneteh Kiprop Omulo from Kenya has been third.
Polat Arıkan achieved the best place among Turkish athletes with 2.17.37. Polat Arıkan followed by Yusuf Önal, Serkan Kaya and Mustafa Es in the seventh place. In women's, Svetlana Kaya achieved the best time with 3.05.15 and placed 10th and she followed by Selma Altundis, Elif Gül Erdemir, Svetlana Zakhvataeva.
Mayor Soyer and Minister Kasapoğlu also ran
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Kasapoğlu and Republican People's Party (CHP) İzmir Provincial Head Şenol Aslanoğlu gave the start of the 19 May Road Run, which was run on the same day as the İzmir Marathon. Dilan Atak (0.38.03), Fatma Arık (0.38.04) and İpek Öztosun (0.40.03) ranked in the top three in the 10-kilometer race, in which Mayor Soyer and Minister Kasapoğlu also took part. It was as follows for men ; Bahattin Üney (0.31.14), Emin Berke Murathan (0.31.31) and Mestan Turhan (0.31.53) While the start of this race was given from the same point, the athletes returned from Köprü Tram Stop on Mustafa Kemal Coast Boulevard and arrived the finish on the opposite lane of Kültürpark İZFAŞ building.
Mayor Soyer rewarded the winners
İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer presented their rewards to Sheware Alene Amare from Ethiopian and Benard Kipkorir, who finished first in Maraton İzmir Avek. The General Secretary of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Ertuğrul Tugay presented their rewards to Hammington Kimaiyo, who came second in men, and Kebebush Yısma, who came second in women. The rewards of Kenneteh Kiprop Omulo, who came in third in men; and Emmah CherutoNdiwa, who came in third in women; were given by Hakan Orhunbilge, the Head of Youth and Sports Services Department of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality.
The Goal of Waste Free Marathon has been carried out once again
The Marathon İzmir Avek has been also run for a "sustainable world" this year in the direction of the "Global Goals" determined by the United Nations (UN), and the goal has been reached again. The plastic bottles given to the runners in Marathon İzmir Avek were collected in waste cans for recycling, All materials were ensured to be recyclable. All advertisements and referrals on the track of sponsors and the race were collected one by one to be recycled at the end of the race.
