Izmir Metropolitan Municipality signed a 30 million Euro loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Fahrettin Altay - Narlıdere Metro Project, which has reached the level of 96 percent. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “What we do is not only for Izmir, but also for the rest of Turkey. That's why we are very eager to do the best.".

The external financing approval, which has been expected for more than a year, came last week from the Treasury within the scope of the Narlıdere Metro, Üçyol Buca HRS Line, Çiğli Tram and Konak Tram Line vehicle purchase projects, which are one of the important transportation projects of İzmir and the construction of which has been completed at a rate of 96 percent. A signing ceremony was held between the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) within the scope of the last external financing loan of 30 million Euros needed for the Narlıdere Metro to meet with the people of Izmir. The ceremony hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer was attended by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Infrastructure Sector Turkey Director Sue Barrett and the bureaucrats of the Metropolitan Municipality.

Soyer: “We will overcome all these difficulties”
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “We have waited a long time for this signature from the Ministry. They finally signed, and as a result, here we are. What we do is not only for Izmir but also for the rest of Turkey. That's why we are so eager to do the best. For example, electric ferries, electric buses, we have a lot to take forward. We are very keen to do these. We know that you are a very good partner for us. All these political conditions, economic difficulties, natural disasters… Everything creates another difficulty. But that's why we're here and we have to do better. That's why we try to do the best. We will overcome all these difficulties. We will contribute to become a better country, a better city. We will do this together, we know it is possible.”.

“We are very close to find the best solution”
Stating that they will use new technologies for the Solid Waste Disposal Facility and that they want to work together again, Mayor Soyer said, “We need to move the waste to another place. We cannot go on like this. We see waste as a raw material. Together with you, we can find something that will surprise the country. We can do this in Izmir. We are very close to finding the best solution. We've been thinking about this for a very long time. The only proper place to be. Menderes seems like the best place for us to start. We are looking at the capacity of Bergama and Ödemiş. We are trying to improve this. We will find a solution," he said.

Barrett: “It is a very important day”
Stating that they will work together in other projects such as Solid Waste Disposal Management, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Infrastructure Sector Turkey Director Sue Barrett said, “Our teams worked hard for this job, I am grateful. It's a very important day. I am proud to be working together. We want to be helpful by doing whatever we can. We always want to support environmental investments," he said.
