Historical City Centre of İzmir including Kemeraltı and its surroundings, one of the symbols of İzmir, is accepted to UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, stated that there’s a 3 year period ahead to make it into the permanent list and said “I believe that the whole stakeholders of the city will join forces and achieve this goal. We will make good use of this period. We aim to make Kemeraltı a location that lives around the clock. We will enliven the bazaar with cultural activities. We will set hiking routes and start tours with tour guides.

Extending his thanks to Governorship of İzmir, Konak Municipality, İzmir Province Culture and Tourism Directorate, İzmir Chamber of Commerce, Aegean Region Chamber of Industry, İzmir Commodity Exchange, Union of Chambers of Merchants and Craftsmen of İzmir, İMEAK Maritime Commerce Chamber, İzmir Development Agency, TARKEM and Kentimiz İzmir Foundation, which contribute to the process along with the Metropolitan Municipality, Soyer said, “We will join hand and take Kemeraltı to where it deserves. With admission to UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, the whole world will learn about Kemeraltı. We will achieve this together. With UNESCO World Heritage status, Kemeraltı will be the locomotive to city tourism and heart of İzmir.”
