Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and UN Population Fund cooperate for mutual projects

A cooperation memorandum of understanding was signed between the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the United Nations Population Fund to increase the effectiveness of development and humanitarian aid efforts. Mayor Soyer said, “We want to do the best we can and lead other municipalities. We are ready to support where we can help. "As Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, we aim to set an example for Turkey in our projects," he said.
 
A memorandum of understanding for cooperation in areas of mutual interest was signed between the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in order to increase the effectiveness of development and humanitarian aid efforts. The ceremony at the Sovereignty House Presidential Meeting Hall hosted İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, Head of Social Projects Department Anıl Kaçar, Metropolitan Municipality Advisor to the Mayor Melih Yalçın, UNFPA Turkey Representative Hassan Mohtashami, Reproductive Health Program Coordinator Gökhan Yıldırımkaya, Humanitarian Aid Program Manager Nazlı Moral, Resource Development and Partnerships Officer Nazife Ece Karaduman, İzmir Field Officer Aylin Çelik. 
 
“We are ready to support”
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mayor Soyer said, “We want to do the best we can and be a pioneer for other municipalities. We are ready to provide support at any point of help. As Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, we aim to set an example for Turkey in our projects.”
UNFPA Turkey Representative Hassan Mohtashami, who gave examples from worldwide research, expressed his satisfaction with the mutual work to be carried out with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Talking about development and population policies, Mohtashami emphasized the importance of family planning. 
 
What are the goals and objectives?
By agreement, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and UNFPA aim to raise the awareness of groups with special needs about fundamental rights and services and to ensure their physical, spiritual and social empowerment. In addition, it is aimed to support young people, to end all kinds of gender-based violence, to develop municipal services in line with the Sustainable Development Goals on women, reproduction, adolescent and youth health and population dynamics, and to strengthen local policies and action plans.
