The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation has given the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality a passing grade for EUROCUP 2,  after 15 years of hosting a European Cup series.
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which hosted the AndreVergauwenCup in 2008 and organized its first international organization in wheelchair basketball, has received full marks from the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) by hosting another European Cup series after 15 years. The EUROCUP 2 Group A matches, one of Europe's most significant cups in wheelchair basketball, has been played at Celal Sports Hall hosted by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality on 10-11 March 2023. On 10-11 March , Besides İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club, Fenerbahce Göksel Celik and MeylanGrenoble Handibasket from France and Orto-Medico Scyzory Kielce from Poland have gone to head to head in the group matches.
Fenerbahce became the group leader.
In the first match of EUROCUP 2 Group A, Fenerbahçe Göksel Çelik became the group leader by defeating İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club 69-56. As a result,  Fenerbahçe qualified for the EUROCUP 2 final in Spain, while İzmir BBSK qualified for the EUROCUP 3 final group, which will be held in Yalova on April 27-30.
There was a  great excitement.
Ersan Odaman, the President of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality -  Youth and Sports Club, emphasized that Izmir is hosting a European Cup again after 15 years in wheelchair basketball. “Under the leadership of our President Tunç Soyer, we are on the way to make İzmir a sports city. We hosted a very significant European Cup series after 15 years in a wheelchair. All matches has gone smoothly for 2 days and there has been a lot of fun.  We have received positive feedback from the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation. We once again registered the power of Izmir to organized international events in every branch of sports. We would like to thank all our staff and volunteers working in the Turkish Physically Handicapped Sports Federation - Izmir Youth and Sports Directorate” said.
