A Rent a Home campaign launched by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for families in need of shelter after the earthquake disaster reached the whole world last night through a special broadcast on Halk TV. 330 Million liras of aid was collected for 33 thousand 98 families during the night in the campaign supported by important names from home and abroad. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that the campaign will continue until there is not a single earthquake in the open and said that the total amount of support has exceeded 350 million liras as of today.
The “One Rent One Home” campaign initiated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality with the Need Map in order to find a solution to the housing problem after the earthquake disasters that caused great destruction in 11 provinces has grown with solidarity. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer and his wife Izmir Village Coop Union President Neptün Soyer also responded to phone calls in the “One Rent One Nest Special” program organized by Halk TV in the studio prepared at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center (AASSM).
Those who want to make rent assistance or open their empty house to earthquake victims and those who need a home to shelter.“ ” with the campaign that brought them together through the website, this time Turkey and the world were called from the top of the screen. Artists, journalists, politicians, mayors from different countries of the world and volunteers participated in the aid mobilization hosted by President Tunç Soyer.
The goal set to solve the housing problem of 28 thousand 466 families waiting for a home was exceeded in the program, which was opened with the song “Ne Lamentor” sung by artist Cem Adrian. On top of the set target, support was provided to be delivered to another 4 thousand 632 earthquake victims' families. Thus, the amount of solidarity amounting to 330 million liras was reached for 33 thousand 98 families in total.
Kılıçdaroğlu: "We will overcome these days in solidarity”
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who participated in the program with support from Turkey and around the world by phone, transferred his salary to the campaign. Kılıçdaroğlu said, "First of all, I would like to thank Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the One Rent One Home campaign and also Halk TV for opening their screens to this campaign from the bottom of my heart. A large majority of our citizens in the region have become homeless, buildings and residences have been destroyed, we have all seen this. Personally, I have been to the region three times and witnessed this. Houses that are not destroyed are also not entered because of anxiety, which is obviously the truth. There is a need for tents and containers in the region. There is also a need for financial support for our people who have temporarily left the provinces. This also appears as a second fact. The more people we can touch, the more people we can reach out to, the better. I believe that our nation will overcome these days in solidarity,”he said.
 Soyer: "We will continue”
Stating that 28 thousand 466 families applied for a house within the scope of the campaign and fixed this number before the special broadcast, Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that they reduced this figure to zero with the solidarity night and exceeded the target and said, “I am proud.  Donations have gone up. But our campaign is not limited to tonight, it will continue. Because the earthquake really had consequences that affected the lives of 13-14 million people. There are tens of thousands out there who have to make a living. The target is very big, long. We thank our volunteers. We are proud of each of them. It was an extraordinary marathon. We will continue until there is not a single earthquake victim in the open, until there is not a single earthquake victim in a tent, in a container, until we build a nest where they will all stick their heads in. The campaign has 4 titles corresponding to the slot. A tent, a container, a rented house or an empty house of a citizen who wants to use his house. Our campaign will continue in these titles,”he said.
Political leaders also participated in the campaign
IYI Party Deputy Chairman Bahadır Erdem also shared the message of IYI Party Chairman Meral Akşener. Bahadır Erdem, who stated that Meral Akşener stated that she would cover the rent of three families, said, “Mr. President, our nation conveys their love and respect. This is the help of our nation to our nation, a real help. This is not a show. Our nation is providing the most valuable assistance tonight,"he said.
