In the 2023 European Junior Teams Chess Championship held in Romania between 23-31 July, the national team under the age of 12 became the second in Europe. Ali Varyemez, 11-year-old player from Izmir Apaydın Chess Youth and Sports Club U12 National Team, visited Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer. Varyemez was accompanied by İzmir Apaydın Chess and Sports Club Founder, team captain and coach Fethi Apaydın and Club President Kemal Can Çömez. The young athlete said that they are happy to have achieved an important success. Mayor Tunç Soyer congratulated the athlete and said, “May you have success. We have great expectations from you. May your way be clear.".
They represented Turkey in Romania
In the 2023 European Youth Teams Championship in Romania, where 174 athletes, 81 of whom are titled, from 15 European countries competed, U12 Turkey team came in second as a result of 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss after 7 matches. Eymen Eren Büyük (12), Umut Anıl Doğan (12), Ali Varyemez (11), Ali Poyraz Uzdemir (9) and Ayaz Şaşkın (12) from İzmir Apaydın Chess Youth and Sports Club U12 National Team, who became the U12 Champion of Turkey in the Turkish Junior and Junior Team Championships represented Turkey in Romania.
