Broken hand bronze medal

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club taekwondo player Esra Akbulak won the bronze medal despite her broken hand at the 31st World University Summer Games held in China.

Works carried out in line with the vision of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer to make Izmir a sports city continue to blossom forth. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club taekwondo player Esra Akbulak won the bronze medal at the World University Summer Games. Esra Akbulak, who placed on the tatami in +73 kg at the 31st World University Summer Games, which started on July 28 in Chengdu, People's Republic of China, beat India's Himanshi Antil 2-0 in the first round, and Poland's Aleksandra Kowalczuk 2-1 in the quarter-finals, making her mark in the last four. The athlete from Izmir, whose hand was broken in the semi-finals, still continued the competition and won the third place by losing 2-1 to Iranian Anahita Tavakoli.

Esra Akbulak, who stated that she was happy to return with a medal from the World University Summer Games, said, “This important organization in China has been a very good experience for me. I broke my hand in the semi-final match and lost my motivation. However, I am proud of returning with the bronze medal. Thank you to everyone who supported me.".
