​İzmir strengthens its relations with Kazan and Moscow

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and representatives of business world held a three day official visit to Kazan and Moscow to better promote İzmir in Russia and to increase cultural and commercial relations. Major steps were taken in the visit to cooperate in commerce, culture and education.

After Tatarstan Capital Kazan, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality delegation continued their visit to Russian Federation capital, Moscow. Led by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, the delegation first visited Turkish Republic ambassador in Moscow, Mehmet Samsar. Taking recommendations of Mehmet Samsar on promoting İzmir in Russia, delegation set its roadmap for the future period.

Second meeting in Moscow was held with Ahmet Palankoev, the Chairman of Russian-Turkish Business Council. Ideas were exchanged in this meeting especially on promoting İzmir in Russia. Then the delegation met Moscow Physics Technical Institute Rector, Nikolay Kudryatsev and his team. Building bridges with universities in İzmir was the main topic of the meeting.

Delegation also met Deputy Head of the Directorate of International Cooperation of ROSTOURISM, Sergey Teodorovich. In the meeting with Teodorovich, who stated that İzmir has to be promoted more in Russia, topics on more tourists from İzmir traveling to Russia, and opening an information centre considered to be launched in Moscow were discussed.

The delegation was met by students who are trained in Turkish and the faculty members in Moscow State University Asian and African Countries Institute. Officials stated that cooperation with İzmir will create job opportunities for students.

İzmir Delegation also met Russian-Turkish Businessmen Association Co-Chairmen Sabahattin Yavuz and Naki Karaaslan. In this meeting the steps necessary to start direct flights between İzmir and Moscow were discussed. Stating that İzmir will be a significant option for Russian tourists who do not consider “all included” tourism, the businessmen expressed the importance of İzmir’s participation to tourism fairs in Russia. Mr. Karaaslan said "Russian love reading, use the internet. Correct communication channels shall be used. İzmir has advantage in health and culture tourism.”

The last official visit was made to Moscow Municipality, Information Technologies Department. Department Head Eduard Lisenko informed the delegation on smart city practices of Moscow.
