İzmir Metropolitan Municipality joined OASC-Open and Agile Smart Cities Network, one of the largest smart city innovation ecosystems of the world. Constituting the OASC Turkey network together with İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will be in touch with cities named “smart cities” around the world and benefit from good practice samples. Thus it will both take İzmir will one step ahead in smart cities and will have the opportunity to promote local efforts in a global scale.
Expressing the importance of transparent and smart city concept for democracy, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “Smart city means a happy and inclusive city that is more liveable. Cooperation with OASC will provide great opportunities to İzmir to develop digital solutions that are more transparent, democratic and accessible. We have to come together and exchange ideas to overcome the current crisis and to find new solutions together.” Davor Meersman, the CEO of OASC - international smart cities network that join 152 smart cities together said, “these are exciting times for OASC. OASC Turkey, that arose with participation of İstanbul and İzmir shows that we are on the right path to openness, interoperability and transparency that are the keys to successful digital transformation in public sector.”
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Tunç Soyer had carried smart city vision of İzmir to international arena by participating Barcelona Smart City EXPO World Congress in November last year. Representatives from different industries coming together in “The Smart City Lab Workshop” on November 20, had shared ideas on the road map for İzmir to become a smart city.
