Tunç Soyer, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, also attended to 5th Turkey-Iraq Investment and Trade Summit İn Balçova Thermal Hotel. Ali Engin, Municipality Mayor of Narlıdere, Kürşat Tüzmen, who had served for Ministry of State for Foreign Trade and Customs in 59th and 60th governments, Nevaf Kılıç, Chairman of Turkish-Iraqi Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (TISIAD) and presidents of federation, association and chamber from Iraq participated along with Mayor Soyer.

Tunç Soyer, The Metropolitan Municipality Mayor of İzmir, mentioned that İzmir had an important potential in terms of developing the trade affairs between two countries. Mayor Soyer said “ Experts and professionals of The Metropolitan Municipality of İzmir will exert themselves to the utmost to guide you.”

Stating that it is a great pleasure to host businessmen from Iraq in İzmir, Tunç Soyer, The Metropolitan Municipality Mayor of İzmir, said “İzmir has connected the East to the West for centuries due to its geographical location. Today, our city, İzmir, still continues to serve as a bridge. In a world becoming global day by day, the geographical, economic and cultural value of İzmir increase more and more. The Metropolitan Municipality of İzmir, works to contribute to this value together with its all stakeholders in the city. We implement a comprehensive strategy to increase the commercial, cultural and touristic volume of İzmir. Turkey’s trade volume with our old neighbour Iraq exceeded the level of 20 billion dollars in 2020. For sure, this figure can be much higher. Why shouldn’t 50 bilion dollars be aimed for? Industry, energy, construction and agriculture, the main sectors of the financial affairs between Iraq and Turkey, are also the most developed sectors of İzmir. At this point, İzmir has a great potential for expanding the trade volume between Iraq and Turkey. İzmir’s developed industry and processed agricultural products may enable many new items to be included in the direct trade between İzmir and Iraq. Our teams are ready to do a severe work  in this regard.”
