EU AMBASSADOR VINALS HIGHLIGHTED THAT TURKEY SHOULD NOT BE ALONE
Ambassador Christian Berger Vinals, the Chairman of EU’s Turkish Delegation, visited Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu in his office.

The Ambassador Vinals stated that he had the chance of visiting Izmir and its surroundings as a tourist and added “I liked the city very much. I have been living in Turkey for almost one year and I am very pleased to be doing cooperation works in several regions”. The Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu reminded that Izmir, which has been a trading city throughout the history, has a wide range industrial activities from petrochemicals to steel and textile and added “As a municipality, our goal is to assure faster development of the city with its dynamics. When conducting such activities, we make no compromises on our sensitivity towards environment”.

Mayor talked frankly
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu informed the Ambassador Christian Berger Vinals as follows since the Ambassador asked to be briefed about assistance on refugee problem:
“The refugee problem is one of the most crucial problems of our country. The refugees use Turkey as a transit point and their ultimate goal is to go to Europe and live there. And they risk their lives for this goal. We, as the municipality, offer support through a number of social aids. The primary supports are provided by the government and governorship. We fulfill our duties. There is nothing a person would not do if that person risks his life. Comfort and support provided to the refugees in Turkey is unparalleled to any other country. We try to help them by providing humanitarian aids when they hold onto life. However, it is a well-known fact that this problem cannot be solved only by referring to Turkey.”
