Sergey Cheremin, Moscow Government Minister and Head of the Moscow Foreign Economic and International Relations Department visited Tunç Soyer, Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality.
Stating that he visits İzmir for the first time and was pleased with his visit, Cheremin invited Mayor Soyer to the Moscow City Forum which will be held between 1-4 July and said, “Mayors from many cities from the world will also participate in the Forum. We wish that you would share your experiences and ideas on the forum. The forum will be held both online and offline. And representatives from many countries will attend to it."
Moscow Office planned to open in July
Tunç Soyer, Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality stated that the Moscow City Forum will be very beneficial for the sake of humanity and that he would be pleased to participate in the forum. Mayor Soyer also stated that they wish the Moscow Office, which they plan to establish, to open simultaneously with the Moscow City Forum to be held between 1-4 July. “It is important to improve relations between Moscow and İzmir. We attach great importance to the Olympic Games, which will be organized for young people and also cover the fields of mathematics, physics and informatics. We aim to send students from İzmir to the Olympics. Again, a market should also be created, where products from İzmir can be sold in Moscow and products from Moscow can be sold in İzmir. In this way, we will make it possible to get to know the cultures."
Mayor Soyer invited Minister Cheremin to the Russian Expo 2021 to be organized by İZFAŞ in İzmir and to the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Culture Summit on 9-11 September 2021.
The pandemic is one of the important topics of the meeting
Mentioning that Russia sends vaccines to more than 50 countries and speaking of their goal of vaccinating 80 percent of the Russian population by summer, Minister Cheremin said, “On terms of economy, we are almost back to the period before the pandemic. Museums, restaurants and markets are open. We advise those aged 85 or older to stay away from large crowds. Doctors and teachers shall have priority in the vaccination process."
Minister Cheremin added that he hopes Moscow and İzmir will establish and maintain good relations.
