We run in Izmir for the ones who cannot |
Wings for Life World Run-Turkey will be held on 8th May in Izmir, which will be run in 33 countries and 34 different cities to give support to spinal cord researches all over the world. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality supports “Wings for Life World Run” as well, which is run at the same time in 34 different cities to attract attention to spinal cord paralytics.
The run will be begun in 6 continents at the same time and is estimated to reach more than 150 thousand participants. Whole income of the run which is supported by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Spinal Cord Paralytics Association of Turkey, is used for researches of permanent treatment of spinal cord paralytics.
In press meeting which is held for the presentation of the organization in Historical Gasworks, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu, Wings for Life World Run Sports Director Colin Jackson, Spinal Cord Paralytics Association of Turkey General Vice Director Semra Çetinkaya and Engelsiz Izmir (Accessible Izmir) Congress President Levent Köstem and Wings for life representatives, national sportsmen Şahika Ercümen, Kenan Sipahi, Ahmet Arslan and İnanç Koç attended.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu stated “This is a very lofty project. It is also essential to underline that whole income will be donated to the scientific researches in treatment of spinal cord paralytics. As Izmir, we host the run which is on 8th May. For the activity to be successful here, all Izmir residents should give maximum support to reach the maximum financial support. From this day forward, we will put in effort to raise the participation. Considering that 2 thousand people ran last year, I believe we have the potential to pass over it so much more. With Izmir’s clear sighted people, I believe that we will do what is necessary. I think there will be participants from Aydın, Manisa, Muğla, Denizli, Uşak etc. Thank you for those who contributed. Izmir has a high sensitivity for disabled people. We believe that we will work hard, succeed and make the greatest support.”
Wings for Life World Run International Race Director Colin Jackson stated that it is a race which has a beginning point but does not have an ending point, participants decide how far they will run by themselves. Jackson pointed out that he success of the acitivity increase year by year and people want to be a part of this experience and added that they want to send their message through volunteer representatives to the world. Colin Jakson said “We should show people the comfort of running and moving. Our aim is to find a permanent solution for spinal cord paralytics. For this, we need many sources and scientists. By the help of these races, more than 7 million euros resource is achieved.
