Symposium “Izmir from Past to Present” |
Symposium “Izmir from Past to Present” which is held in collaboration with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Ege University, French Cultural Center, Arkas Art Center and Labex Transfers began in Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center.
During the symposium which will be ended on 7th October, “Izmir’s Cosmopolit Structure: Literature, Music, Folklore and Gastronomy”, “Smyrna: To a Great Aegean City from the beginning”, “Architectural Ruins of Cultural Meetings”, “City Topography from past to present” will be discussed in detail.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Deputy Dr. Sırrı Aydoğan who made the opening speech in symposium, stated that in Izmir many different languages; English, French, Italian are spoken for centuries. However Izmir people share the same feelings.
Reputed historian Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı “Izmir will grow and this growth should be refined. If we grow in a refined way, we can turn into just as Barselona which is located on the other edge of Mediterranean.”
French Historian Prof. Dr. Michel Espagne who has role in scientific committee of the symposium made speech on behalf of Labex Transfers that Smyrna embodies many mosaics in itself, Izmir is an Islamic city, but also
